Many people are now turning towards search engine optimization to get free traffic from search engines. Most try to optimize each web page of their site for a particular keyword. Rank well and get good traffic from search engines but don’t make any sales.
Success in search engine optimization is totally solely dependent on finding the right keywords. If you optimize your site for keywords that don’t convert than you will be wasting your months of efforts on SEO.
One thing must be very clear. Every keyword does not convert into sales. There are only some keywords in each niche that will convert into sales. There are many opinions about the kind of keywords that convert into sales.

After getting the general information, the prospect starts to narrow down his/her search with long tail keywords. Long tail keywords are the ones that contain three or more words in them.
So many experts will advise you to optimize each web page for the long tail keywords as the chances of conversion are high on them. The competition for ranking is also usually low on the long tail keywords.
Long tail keywords get less traffic as compared to general one word keywords and are thought to convert well. But you will never know until you test. Conversion into sales is a combination of keywords and the sales copy. One site may convert into sales very well on a particular keyword. But a second site on that same keyword may fail to convert into sales at all.
Only way to find the golden keywords that convert are through PPC. You will have to run a PPC campaign on your site to find the keywords that convert.
