Today there are tons of strategies that you can use for search engine optimization, so many in fact that you can get so confused that you are paralyzed into inaction. Been there, done that! But, lets look at a free, easy and awesome strategy, social bookmarking. A lot of professional SEOs (search engine optimizers) use social bookmarking as one of their primary tools. Done right, it is one of the best ways to increase your sites traffic. It also boosts your search engine rankings and gets critical backlinks.

Social bookmarking in a one of kind optimization strategy. It is based on the big search engines love affair with Web2.0 sites. Google has admitted that content that is edited (tagged) and rated by users is a very strong indication of the value of that content.

Let’s discuss how this strategy works and make an action plan.

First of all, you need to visit sites like StumbleUpon or Digg. There are many others but these will work for our purposes.

• Step one.Create new account on each, if you haven’t already.
• Step two .Spend ten or twenty minutes on reading the FAQs and getting oriented in general, ten minutes should give you everything you need to know to start.
• Step three. Start adding your own bookmarks, do not start with your own money sites! You need to ease in with good personal bookmarks that you really like, especially hard to find, or really great source stuff.
• Step four. Now you can add your bookmark to your money site, make sure that you use the keywords you want to rank in, like the main keywords from your homepage. You can also bookmark inner pages on your site, if your main page is ranking well in its keywords and you are launching new pages or products etc. Now do not put more than one link from your site in your bookmarking account, at least not more than two…ever! Why? Because your account may get flagged as spam, and your account closed. My general rule of thumb is 40 personal bookmarks to one money site bookmark.
• Step five. Here you have to make a choice, you can create multiple email accounts, or you probably already have more than one anyway. Then you can start the process over again. But use different bookmarks, not all the same. You can of course bookmark your own money pages again. Just don’t make the accounts identical. I know that some people are not totally comfortable with this, but think about something for a second, SEO is not a natural process anyway! Changing your sites content, getting backlinks, all for better position on Google is not a natural process. So if your competition employs some SEOs who have hundreds of social bookmarking accounts in their arsenal, which they do! You have to get competitive and since social bookmarking is free, it’s a good area to make a stand.

Once you get your feet wet with the basics, which only takes about an hour. You will need some tools. Social bookmarking on a large scale without some tools or online services is slow torture.
